Tomorrow's Session Today

In this week's session we start by working on your players' passing ability, when standing and on the move, before progressing into a game where you can introduce your players to some of the basic team-play principles. Read on to learn more!

To ensure passing practice is lively and fun we get your players working in small groups from the off, starting with a through the gates consistency exercise before building up towards some fun exciting conditioned games to get your players working hard and moving quickly.

After the skills practice comes the final game. To ensure everyone gets as much ball time as possible we get everyone playing small-sided matches, the only difference here though is that you're going to talk to your players before the game to introduce your players to the basic game principles. For instance: Don't all chase the ball, build up play from the back and always keep one defender staying back to prevent the opposition playing the long ball/ counter-attack!

Defence into Attack - Playing the ball out from the back

This week's Session gets your players working on dribbling, passing and their ability to look forwards when in possession deep in their own half. Read on to learn more!

Quite often when defenders are in possession of the ball they will hoof the ball up the pitch and play route one football. Although this is good defensively for clearing your lines it's rarely of use for your forwards who now have to compete for the ball in the air up against the opposition's tall defenders. To encourage your players to support the attack this session covers alternative ways for defenders to move the ball up the field.

To get your players into the right mindset we start with a series of simple, but fast paced, passing exercises before setting up a final conditioned game which will see your defensive players having to touch the ball before passing the up field - keeping route one football well at bay!

Getting Players to use both feet - Dribbling and Touch session

Most players will naturally gravitate to using one foot over the other but it's important to constantly encourage players to use both feet to give them double the options when running with the ball. Read on to learn more!

It's for that reason that this week's session gets your players to practice using their other foot to control and dribble the ball. Ambidextrous players, such as Wesley Sneijder and David Villa, are able to kick, pass and shoot with either foot, giving them greater choice when selecting a pass or picking their spot to shoot.

To get your players using all parts of both their feet we push your players to work with the ball at speed. It is only by challenging your players that you can hope to see them improve. Starting with a Simon says style warm up we then get everyone working with a ball at their feet, changing direction and building the skill towards a game situation.
